USERS PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DOCUMENT, AS INSTRUCTIONS FOLLOW!
You say you have a vast shareware library, and you're looking for an archiver
which will save you lots of storage space? Me too.
You say you found ARJ and it solved the problem? Me too, except for one tiny
bug on the windshield of my life......
Goes something like this: One day, you discover ARJ file archiver. You test
it and find it gets better compression than most, so you go to your archive
library (which happens to contain all your .ZIPed files) and convert them all
to ARJ. BIG drive-space savings! You're happy! :-)
So, two months later, you're looking for a certain little utility. You don't
remember the name exactly, but you know it starts with the letter "A" and it
was written in 1987. You jump to your archive library and eagerly search but
-POOF!- your eager expectations go up in a puff of smoke when you see that
ALL of your newly ARJed archives bear the date you changed them from ZIP and
not the program date at all! :-(
So now what? ENTER A-DATE!
A-DATE is a utility which goes through an .ARJ archive file, finds the newest
filedate inside the archive and datestamps the archive with it. This way,
you can see how old the program actually is, not just when it was archived.
==============================================================================
INSTRUCTIONS: You should put the ARJ archiver in your DOS path so it may be
accessed from any subdirectory on your system. Put A-DATE in the same place
you keep ARJ. Now, no matter where you are in your system, if there are any
ARJed files there you simply type ADATE and watch the files process right
under your very nose!
SYSOPS WHO RUN ARJ, PLEASE NOTE.....
You can use A-DATE in each of your file directories to update your archives.
It will NOT remove or change your BBS archive advertisement banner, and your
BBS files listing should reflect the new dates when you re-sort your files
bases. You may even want to put A-DATE in your event to process new uploads.
Just be SURE that A-DATE is the last thing you run as any additions to the
archives (including banners) re-dates the archive to the date the banner was
added.
BY THE WAY...I take no responsibility for damages resulting from the misuse
of this utility. It is based on an actual ARJ command and should do exactly
what it was created to do. If you like this, you may want to consider
registration of ARJ.
This utility may not be sold or bundled with commercial packages. Pass it
around though!
